On April 14, 1935, the “Black Sunday” dust storm swept across the central Plains, turning daytime into darkness and becoming one of the most devastating events of the Dust Bowl era. In 1981, NASA's Space Shuttle Columbia completed its first test flight, successfully landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California and marking a new era in reusable spacecraft. Finally, on April 14, 2003, the Human Genome Project was completed, successfully mapping the entire human genome and opening new frontiers in genetics and medicine.
