Lori Trahan is a proven, dynamic leader representing the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District. Elected to office in 2018, Lori is working to put the government back to work on issues that will make a difference in lives of working and middle-class families, including improving access to quality health care, making prescription drugs affordable, easing student loan debt, increasing Social Security benefits, and opening pathways to education that will bridge the skills gap and lead to higher paying jobs.
As a member of the historic 116th Congress, Lori believes there is great opportunity for our country to lead again and demand equality. She has co-sponsored bills to expand paid family leave and address the important issues of equal pay for equal work. She will not stand for any action that takes away the rights of any person based on their color, religion, sexual orientation, age or gender. She will demand immigration reform that is built on respect, humanity and dignity for all.
Accountability is another key piece of Lori’s work. She has co-sponsored “For the People,” a sweeping reform of our election process that will take dark money out of politics and will ensure that everyone’s voting rights are preserved. She has the fortitude to take on the Administration when it undermines our values, denouncing a ban on transgender troops in the military and protecting Presidential overreach by protecting Article I of the Constitution.
Lori also believes in the power of coalitions and is working across the aisle on many issues that impact us all, including the opioid epidemic. This crisis needs the full attention of both parties and Lori is working with local, state and federal stakeholders to direct our attention and funding at solutions that increase access to treatment and provide long-term support for those in recovery and gives law enforcement the resources they need to get deadly fentanyl off our streets.
Lori, 45, is a proud native of Lowell, Massachusetts. Her father Tony was a union ironworker for Local 7 until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1994. Her mother Linda juggled various part time jobs while raising Lori and her three sisters. Lori attended Lowell public schools and, from an early age, began working by delivering newspapers and waiting tables. She went on to earn a B.S. at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service while playing Division I volleyball on a four-year scholarship. She was the first person in her family to graduate college. In 2008, Lori was inducted into the Lowell High School Sports Hall of Fame.
After graduating college, Lori began working for Congressman Marty Meehan, and rose through the ranks to become his Chief of Staff and top advisor overseeing congressional operations in Washington and Massachusetts.
Lori left public service in 2005 and began working at a high tech company in Cambridge where she was the only female executive. As Chief Revenue Officer at ChoiceStream, she oversaw commercial activities for its major lines of business and helped expand its portfolio of services.
Lori co-founded Concire Leadership Institute, a woman-owned business that works with executive teams across industries to create better experiences for their customers and employees. Lori was participated in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2013.
She has spent much of her career as an executive, an entrepreneur and business consultant, building successful companies and bringing practical solutions to complex problems.
Lori lives with her husband, David Trahan, a homebuilder, in Westford, where she has three grown stepsons – Thomas (25), Dean (22), and Christian (20) -- and two young girls who very much want to be grown but have a few years to go, Grace (8) and Caroline (4).
