The unraveling of our presidential debates, and our entire national political discourse, are a direct result of failed stewardship of a corrupt Commission on Presidential Debates created in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican Parties to take the debates away from the League of Women Voters.
For too long, this "Commission" has gotten away with protecting the two-party duopoly's power by shutting down any independent and third party competition. When 76% of the electorate wants open debates, but this unaccountable gatekeeper stands in their way, it falls to We the People to assert our fundamental rights to learn about all of our ballot choices.
Poll after poll shows that 40% of the electorate considers themselves politically independent, 2/3 want a third party and easier paths for independent and third party candidates to win office, 9/10 want to move beyond the divisiveness of our current hyperpartisan atmosphere.
The only way the CPD gets away with shutting out independent competition is that the American electorate has no idea this is happening in the first place. The media bestows on the CPD a level of legitimacy, neutrality, and respect that it has simply never earned. Its fiercest critics have been sidelined or silenced by various means, including numerous court rulings by a federal judiciary appointed and confirmed by the duopoly's elected leaders, and a bipartisan federal regulatory body that has supported the CPD every step of the way.
It is time to expose the false narrative of an official-sounding Commission that claims to serve the American electorate all while subverting the electorate's unambiguous preferences to have more voices and better choices in our elections.
The people are with us. We just have to get organized. It's time for all of us who are fed up with the duopoly's debate fraud scheme to come together, work together, and fight, TOGETHER, to open the debates to all ballot-qualified candidates.
Let's make 2020 the year we break through the duopoly's fortress of protection.
This cross-partisan fight needs Americans from all walks of life, from across the political spectrum and across the partisan divides to put aside ideological differences to work together for a fundamental bedrock principle of healthy self-government -- that a well-informed electorate requires voters having an opportunity to hear from all of their ballot choices.
