Trump Claims ‘There Was No Tariff Exception’ in Fiery Social Media Post: ‘NOBODY Is Getting Off the Hook!’

President Donald Trump has just issued a fiery statement about tariffs which is likely to confound an already puzzled business community even further.

In a post to his Truth Social platform Sunday afternoon, the president seethed about the portrayal of the policy announcement from his White House on Friday — which rolled out guidance that smartphones and other electronic devices would be exempt from his administration’s steep tariffs on goods imported from China. Trump argued that China is not getting a free pass.

“NOBODY is getting ‘off the hook’ for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other Countries have used against us, especially not China which, by far, treats us the worst!” Trump wrote. “There was no Tariff ‘exception’ announced on Friday. These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff ‘bucket.’ The Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it.”

Trump went on to say “We are taking a look at Semiconductors and the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN in the upcoming National Security Tariff Investigations.” His Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, sounded a similar note during a Sunday interview on ABC’s This Week.
