Nicole Renzulli, grew up in Cranston and has called the City home for a total of almost three decades.  She graduated from Cranston High School West in 2002, where she was an All-State runner and Honors student. She went on to pursue her Bachelor of Arts with a degree in English and a minor in Communications at Florida State University, where she was also a Division I athlete. Nicole began a career as an associate producer at a local news station in Tallahassee, before moving back to Cranston to be closer to her family. Going on to work at Rhode Island’s Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner as an Administrative Officer and later a Principal Planning and Program Specialist, Nicole quickly learned the ins and out of government, organizing communication at high levels and working closely with various State departments. Today, Nicole is a Track & Field and Cross-Country Coach at Western Hills Middle School and Cranston High School West, where she has found her calling: coaching and mentoring student-athletes.

Nicole is happily married to Cranston native Joseph Martins, and the dedicated mother of three children, Anthony, 11, and 4-year-old twins, Francesca and Jovanna. She is proud to work and raise her family in the same great City where she and her husband grew up. An active volunteer, Nicole is a Coach for the CLCF Panthers Cross-Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track & Field teams, and serves on the non-profit’s Board as CLCF’s Director of Fundraising.  She is incredibly involved in her children’s education and has been an active member of Woodridge Elementary School’s PTO, serving as its Vice President for two years. Nicole has also spent years working closely in the community with Ward 4 Councilman Ed Brady, feeding and clothing the homeless through the RI Dream Center, collecting thousands of toys for Toys for Tots, and giving back to their high school as members of the Cranston West Alumni Association.

Why is She Running?

As a working mother with school-aged children, who is passionate about helping others and solving problems, Nicole wants to use her unique experience and viewpoint to ensure Cranston remains an outstanding community for many years to come. Nicole is committed to planning for Cranston’s future without losing the perspective of past leaders, like Mayor Allan Fung, who have made Cranston the safe, fiscally stable community it is today. Her goal is to dive deeply into the issues of constituents, put herself in the shoes of stakeholders on those issues, and be a voice for all citizens of Cranston. Nicole believes that as a city with an increasingly diverse population, we need to emphasize how we will engage, serve, and partner with all of Cranston’s citizens, so that we can all share in the City’s progress and growth as a unified, vibrant community. Approaching leadership with the mindset of a Coach, Nicole knows she will be able to utilize her empathy, curiosity, and listening skills to ask the tough questions and be an effective leader and a voice for the people of Cranston.

Nicole emphasizes maintaining the City’s sound infrastructure and fiscal integrity, while effectively delivering quality, inclusive public education, superior public safety, suitable housing, and other vital services that focus on quality of life and keep Cranston a wonderful place to live and do business. She also hopes to help advance Cranston’s technological efforts to reduce costs and simultaneously improve services and transparency. As a newcomer to politics, Nicole is hopeful her bi-partisan mindset will help her to align council members and focus on working together as a high-performing team that is solution-oriented, rather than party-oriented.  Determined to empower all citizens of Cranston, Nicole Renzulli is excited to pour her time and energy into making government transparent and accessible to the people, in an effort to move Cranston forward to serve future generations.
