Why do I want to run for office?

I am running for city council because I will work to make Eau Claire even more of a destination city.  I will work to see a strong Eau Claire with a high quality of life, a place where people and businesses want to move to and stay. I also want to see an Eau Claire for all, with employers able to offer fair wages and workers finding affordable places to live.  In the last decade Eau Claire was the second-fastest growing major city in Wisconsin.  I will listen to and work with residents, businesses, and organizations to see that growth continues for the next decade.

What experience will I bring to the Eau Claire City Council?

My family has lived in Eau Claire for over 15 years.  I recently finished a six-year tenure on the Waterways & Parks Commission.  The last three years I served as the chairperson.  I was energized by the citizen action and participation that I saw during that time.

The Waterways & Parks commission is a citizen-led group that not only advises the city council but also the Plan Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.  During my tenure, we oversaw development throughout the city.  I chaired meetings on fundamental parts of the city such as the Pablo Center and Haymarket Plaza, Carson Park, Hobbs Ice Arena, the upcoming Cannery District, UW-Eau Claire Garfield Avenue transformation, invasive species control, and numerous housing projects next to our parks and rivers.

I work in high-tech manufacturing in the city of Eau Claire.  Workplaces like mine thrive when high-quality talent comes to and stays in our city.  We need to compete with nearby larger metro areas to attract and retain the talent required to continue our growth.  We also want to appeal to the graduating population from our high schools, from CVTC, and from UW-Eau Claire.

This plan for our future requires focusing on making Eau Claire an affordable city, listening to public input, promoting participatory budgeting, fostering an engaged community, appreciating the natural beauty of our city, and committing to sustainability.
