Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools for Every Student

I am a former high school teacher who returned to the classroom himself to study education further and learn how to use policy to make schools a place where every student can succeed. I've spent my whole adult life working in and around public schools, and I now serve on our school board to impact kids in our community. As a teacher, a researcher, a grant writer, and a parent, I strive every day to do what's best for kids and schools. 

In our current race, I'm working to ensure that the strong path we set during the COVID pandemic has a chance to grow and succeed. I'm focused on creating schools in which every student has the opportunity to succeed, that they each have the supports they need to do so, and that all kids have a safe and nurturing environment to learn in. 

Over the past three years of my term, the most recent two as President of the Board, we've done a whole lot. We started a dual language immersion program, a transitional center for graduating special education students, a new virtual school, and put solar panels on our two main high schools. We've reorganized the work of the school board to focus on student results rather than micromanaging our district and we've put in place a new set of governing policies to help us do so and make the vision of our community directly accountable to our schools’ success. Beyond that, we've committed our district to acknowledging the needs of often marginalized groups of students, committed to an energy-sustainable district by 2050, and taken bold stand on creating an equitable district. 

And as we take these into the future, we will continue to stand with out students, families, and teachers against the ongoing and organized attacks on public education we face in Eau Claire, across Wisconsin, and across our country.
