I am running for Pinole City Council with a deep commitment to democratic values and the power of community. My family's journey is a testament to the American dream and the immigrant struggle that connects us. My parents and siblings immigrated to the United States in 1974. My dad, a skilled tradesman in Vietnam, faced many barriers to getting licensed due to language, financial, and cultural challenges. My mom took care of us and helped at churches in exchange for food and clothes. While volunteering at a church, my mom met her first American friend, who showed us what America could be: kind, caring, and willing to help those in need. These values inspire my passion for public service. Growing up in an immigrant family taught me to be resourceful and find creative solutions to problems.
My degree in international business has given me a strong understanding of economic systems, cross-cultural communication, and strategic planning. This education helps me navigate complex issues, foster cooperation, and create strategies for our local community. I have learned how to analyze city trends, understand regulations, and establish sustainable practices. As a mother and main caregiver to an eight-year-old with special needs, I have developed strong problem-solving and advocacy skills. These experiences have shown me the importance of creating inclusive spaces where everyone's voices are heard and celebrated. As a city and county commissioner, I have worked with fellow commissioners and our community to address important issues. Serving on the Pinole Planning Commission has given me valuable insights into local government and the impact of civic engagement.
The immigrant struggle, whether for Asian Americans like my family, Latine Americans, or immigrants from across the globe, is the American struggle. It is a story of resilience, hard work, and the pursuit of a better life. As your city councilmember, I will work tirelessly to create policies that reflect these values, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to our shared future. Together, we can build a city that is sustainable, inclusive, supportive, and truly representative of the community.
Together, we can build a stronger, more connected community that reflects our shared values and aspirations. My priorities include funding community infrastructure with a focus on safety, achieving balanced resource allocation, supporting economic development and revitalization, increasing environmental sustainability, creating civic transparency and community engagement. I also aim to support our seniors and families by developing comprehensive programs and services.
Your contribution will help fund my campaign and go toward postage, printing, and design of flyers and mailers; a database for volunteers to contact voters; website creation, hosting and management; team communication tools like Canva, Zoom, MailChimp; voter outreach including text banking and digital advertising; campaign filing fees; and consultant services.
