Each of us is experiencing the impact of COVID-19, but it is undeniable that in the United States, communities of color are under greatest threat due to multiple factors. These include frontline jobs, underlying medical conditions due to lack of access to adequate healthcare and/or substandard housing in densely populated areas.

While these communities are at greater risk of contracting the coronavirus, their lives are threatened not just by COVID-19, but by other existential challenges such as loss of income and food insecurity. 

We've selected four organizations that are doing great work to support communities who are at higher risk at this time. 

  • Feeding America 
    Helping food banks respond to COVID-19 as many families / people are experiencing food insecurity as a result of the situation.

  • The Know Your Rights Camp COVID-19 Relief Fund
    Helping to address the needs of black and brown communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19, including:
    - Providing emergency assistance in areas such as food, shelter, and basic needs.
    - Providing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to our communities.
    - Supporting our essential workers.
    - Supporting incarcerated populations.
    - Educating our communities on best practices during COVID-19, as well as share knowledge on past, present and future preventative measures.

  • Native American Community Response Fund (COVID-19)
    The Decolonizing Wealth Project has launched a rapid response fund to provide emergency support for the most vulnerable Native American families and communities impacted by COVID-19.

  • National Bail Out: Black Mama's Bail Out
    Incarcerated people are especially vulnerable to illness and even death during the COVID-19 pandemic, so this organization is bailing out women in pre-trial detention. Help #FlattenTheCurve by reuniting black mothers and caregivers with their families so that they can be alive, well and safe.

Help us reach the finish line!

To all who have generously donated, we send massive thanks! This fundraiser started as a small idea and the fact it could blossom from a brief online conversation into tangible and direct support of communities hardest hit by the effects of COVID-19 shows that often what we can achieve in communion with each other surpasses what might be done by one of us alone. Thank you for being a part of this!

We've been quiet about the fundraiser because we wanted to give space for all the important actions that have been going on these past weeks. But as COVID-19 is not yet closed to contained in the US, and continues to disproportionately effect communities of color, we want to give a last big push to get the fundraiser over the finish line. 

We’ll be closing the fundraiser the weekend of July 4th. We’ve raised $8,910 so far from 102 donors, so we are almost 90% to our goal. Everyone is of course welcome to top up their original donation, but another way to support our efforts is to share the fundraiser directly with networks and people you know who may be interested in the work of four great charities directly supporting communities in need. Please feel free to share directly, or get in touch if you have ideas or we can support you with outreach.

Communities of color have been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic and yet many are risking their lives to perform front line jobs and to exercise their constitutional rights to protest for justice and an end to police brutality and racism. What better way to celebrate July 4th than a donation to help groups most vulnerable to the medical and economic ravages of COVID-19. Please join us in reaching our goal. Thank you!
